' Public Property Belongs To All of us '       Institutions or services maintained by the government for the benefit of the common people are called public property. Education, Transport and Health are the major services rendered free of charge or at a bearable cost to the community. The government schools provide the children with education, books and uniforms without any charge. A selected group has the opportunity to have free education at the universities too. Most of the medicine, facilities for pathological tests and surgeries are available in government hospitals at no charge. Public transport system - trains, buses provide an efficient service at our minimum cost.       But do we take care of the public property that serves us at every occasion of our life? Ramazan the ninth month of the Islamic calendar is observed as a month of fasting.       Fasting must be observed by every adult Muslim, except the infirm, Pregnant women and women who nurse babies.   " The Titanic "           An American shipping line launched a new ship in 1912. Titanic was its name. There had been no other vessel at that time which could surpass the Titanic in luxury and enormity. Experts called it unsinkable. The Titanic was making its inaugural voyage on 14th April 1912 from England to the U.S.A across the Atlantic ocean. 2224 passenger were aboard the ship. All of them were in high spirits celebrating Titanic's maiden journey.           Suddenly the ship stuck an iceberg. It was a fatal collision. This accident made a wide hole in the hull of the ship and the ship began to sink.           As the ship was sinking the crew alarmed the passengers of the accident. As man evolved to be erect and got hands free he started to communicate with hand signals. As time passed various noises were made and languages were developed.      Until the telephone was invented in the eighteenth century, point to point communication did not exist. A World Heritage Site in Sri Lanka

  Sinharaja Forest       Our little island Sri Lanka is blessed with many forests. Among those Sinharaja is considered as the largest tropical rainforest which is home to many rare animals, birds, insects and reptiles. It is the only undisturbed forest, about 9000 hectares in extent. This contains many rivers and streams. It also contains a large number of plants used for Ayurvedic medicine. In addition 60% percent of trees found here are endemic to Sri Lanka.      In 1840 Sinharaja become a crown property. It was made a National Wilderness area in 1988.
